Attorney Rebecca Hopper Cozart’s life began in rural Illinois, where she was born and raised before attending school at Campbell University for her Bachelors of Arts in English. She then went on to earn her law degree from North Carolina Central University’s School of Law. In 1997, Rebecca was certified by the North Carolina Bar and began practicing law as an ADA. She later joined The Public Defender’s Office in South Carolina.
Rebecca’s husband, the late-John Cozart, served as U.S. Marine Corp and was a veteran of Desert Storm. In 2000, the Cozart family relocated to Jacksonville. Rebecca joined the Florida Bar in 2001 and the Georgia Bar soon after in 2003.
Rebecca joined the firm in December 2017 and has made a major impact in her few short years as a member. Rebecca’s legal knowledge, strength, and dedication to her role as a Senior Attorney has propelled the firm into the new decade, settling the firm’s first even seven-figure premise liability case in 2019. In addition to her legal work, Rebecca has also taken it upon herself to teach training sessions to Florida Coastal School of Law clerks as well as junior attorneys within The Law Offices of Ron Sholes, P.A.
When she’s out of the courtroom, Rebecca enjoys spending time with her five grandchildren and giving back to the community. Rebecca has volunteered with local charities including the Betty Griffith House as well as the Habitat for Humanity and K-9s for Warriors.
In 2019, Rebecca was honored for her dedication to quality and commitment within the firm as the first annual recipient of the Michelline Haynes Ruth Leadership Award.
